Hunting

Whether fruits from the trees or wild animals, we respect the mana (status) of the animal and or food source, and give thanks through mihi (acknowledgement), and karakia (incantation).

It is important that we take for sustenance only and to maintain the biodiversity of our natural environment.

If you would like to experience this for yourself, as a parent and child adventure, or as a couple, we would be more than happy to create some life-long memories with you.

Our native bush block at Ō-Tama-Kura is a place that provides a getaway from everyday life, creates new experiences for people, and provides kai (food) for plenty of whānau also.

We take you into the ngahere (bush) to either watch, photograph, and or hunt wild game, that being goats, deer and pigs. These animals are wild and free from any human intervention, and live a wild and free life.

When it comes to goat meat (our fave), it is interesting to note that it is the most eaten meat on the planet, and unfortunately, the wild goat population does a lot of damage to our native and regenerating natural bush.

We are lucky enough to hold numbers of both red deer and fallow deer on our property and should you wish to take a day to simply stalk and photograph, or stalk and hunt meat for your family, we will do our best to achieve this for you.

When it comes to strategic hunting mixed with adrenalin, wild pig hunting has it all. We use trained pig hunting dogs to help us catch wild pig meat for you to take away with you. It is imperative once the dogs halt a pig, that we get there as fast as we can to lessen the chances of any unnecessary damage on both the pig and the dogs.

At Ō-Tama-Kura you will be face to face with the rangatira maunga (mountain) of our region - Tapuae-o-Uenuku, standing proudly amongst the Inward Kaikōura Mountain Range at 2,885m high, you will be in awe of his presence, it's literally like he's so close, you feel as if you could just about reach out and touch him.

We take great pride in being able to help you prepare and cook any kai (food) we catch for your enjoyment post hunt, as we always intend on utilising what is respectfully hunted.

It would be our honour to spend time with you in the bush, learning, walking, or hunting - the choice is yours.
