Tā mātou kōrero… (our story)
Both Korey and Tessa stem from very humble beginnings;
For Korey, life started in Aranui Christchurch, before the whānau moved to Kaikōura and then onto Taranaki where he spent most of his childhood. Professional rugby league then took him to Auckland, England and Australia before the love of boxing and then professional mixed martial arts led him to two Australian titles and one New Zealand title. All of these sports added to Korey’s love for health, fitness, nutrition and wellness which in turn enabled him to build a successful business career through companies such as Boot Camps Australia, Quest Health Clubs, Snap Fitness NZ, MyFirstGym Global and Fit Futures Academy to name a few.
Tessa was born in Taranaki and spent most of her formative years competing in long distance sports such as surf-lifesaving, endurance races, eco-challenges and both water and snow skiing. Tessa loves being in the kitchen and coming up with different healthy ways to satisfy the whānau, the odd bit of chocolate, red wine and port does make an appearance from time to time also!
“Our whānau is very important to us and each day we strive to be better in everything we cherish; from speaking only Te Reo Māori to our children, being positive role models especially in times of stress and ensuring we are always growing, learning and staying relevant in today’s world whilst holding onto cultural traditions and practices.”
Korey and Tessa love the outdoors and spend much of their time in the bush hunting their own meat or down at the beach with the kids simply relaxing or gathering kaimoana.
Tessa and Korey met whilst working together in one of Korey’s new health and fitness centres in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Korey was living between Christrchurch and Kaikōura at the time but spending 80% of his weeks on planes, in rental cars and in motels.
They never met in Taranaki during their younger years, but it was their childhood home that would bring them together in 2013.
Before too long, Tessa was operating one of his brand new gyms in Rolleston, Christchurch.
Put simply; “I came home from the office one night and she had well and truly made my house her home, I didn’t have a coat hanger left!
I knew from that point on she was here to stay!” 🙂
2017 – 2018
She said yes!
We were engaged on June 10th 2017 – she’s one lucky lady 😉
A new dream is born…
The first glamping hut named “Tūī” began construction at home in Mangāmāunu, Kaikōura in March 2019…
We secured 485 acres of native bushland in the tops of Ō-Tama-Kura (Goose Bay) Kaikōura and enjoyed it so much we decided we wanted to share it with others. That idea then progressed to allowing people to stay overnight for an escape from the demands of day to day life.
Tessa loved the idea of glamping, so we decided to have the best of both worlds with beach and bush locations where we could share more adventures and knowledge with our visitors.
We are taking pre-bookings now…
We will be open for visitors in the second half of 2019. All sites will be accompanied with ‘Escape Extras’, of which you can select as many or as few as you wish. Please see our Escape Extras menu.
